Musammat Shamima Begum Remembered After Fatal Interstate 270 Crash Near Democracy Boulevard In Montgomery County
Musammat Shamima Begum, 46, of Burke, Virginia, died Saturday evening, August 29, 2026, in a crash on Interstate 270 near Democracy Boulevard in Montgomery County, Maryland.
Shamima traveled in a Toyota Camry with family members shortly before 7 p.m. when a Ford Mustang moved north in the southbound lanes and struck the vehicle head-on.
Areebah Jahin, 23, of Alexandria, also died at the scene after suffering fatal injuries in the same crash.
A 62-year-old driver and an 8-year-old passenger in the Toyota went to local hospitals by ambulance after the collision.
The crash closed the southbound lanes for nearly five hours while troopers examined the scene and gathered details.
